Generally accepted to be the world’s best country for sea life, Indonesia has more marine diversity than anywhere on earth. Located right in the middle of the ‘Coral Triangle’ that extends from Australia to the Philippines and across to Borneo and into the South Pacific. This area holds an impressive 20% of the world’s coral reefs, holds 3,000 different species of fish and 600 coral species.
As one of Indonesia’s top areas for scuba diving and snorkelling, with a reputation for being the ‘turtle capital of the world’, and year round water temperatures around 29°c, the Gili islands have become popular for beginners and experienced divers alike. There are about 25 dive sites around the islands of Air, Meno and Trawangan, with a variety of topography (slopes, walls, ridges and canyons) and an enormous amount of diverse marine life. This includes black- and white tip reef sharks, lots of turtles (green and hawksbill), lionfish, scorpion fish, cuttlefish and octopus, moray eels, sea snakes, different types of rays (bluespotted, kuhls, eagle and even manta!) crazy critters like peacock mantis shrimp, pygmee seahorse, pipefish, indian walkman as well as frogfish.
Not to mention schools of bumphead parrot fish and the occasional whale shark, plus countless varieties of hard and soft corals. At Gili Divers on Air, we dive 365 days a year and offer multiple dives per day.None of our dive sites lay more than 20 minutes away by our boat that we launch from the stretch of beach directly in front of our dive shop, avoiding long walks to and from the boat in the hot sun. At the north of Gili Air we find Han´s Reef where the perfect white sandy beach gently meet the reef. You will travel over the sandy bottom and various sized coral bommies. This offers a perfect variation seeing how different marine life prefer different habitats, over the sandy areas we often find stingrays, garden eels aswell as cow fish and helmut gurnards.
On the different sized pinnacles you can find everything from turtles and scorpion fish to cuttle fish and the elusive blue ringed octopus! The maximum depth is 24m with an average depth of 14m. This dive site is suitable for all certification levels and a must for macro lovers!
This beautiful dive site is located on the north part of Gili Meno. It’s an under water pinnacle with lots of colourful corals and LOTS of turtles! This dive site is appropriate for all level divers. The pinnacle is often covered in shoals of fish like Sergeant Majors and Fusillers.
The site hosts a resident giant moray eel and octopus, scorpion fish and lion fish are often seen here, you can also find a lot of macro here such as nudibranch, ghostpipefish and different types of crabs.
Deep Turbo, is for the more experienced diver. It´s a white sandy bottom between large sea mounds and coral canyons. It is located in the channel between GIli Trawangan and Gili Meno. The Maximum depth is 32m with an average depth of 25m.
This site´s has got amazing landscape and an interesting collection of overhangs and outcrops covered in a variety of hard and soft corals including gigantic sea fans. Barracuda, tuna, triggerfish, snapper and stingrays can all be expected to show up during the dive. Whitetip and blacktip reef sharks are also frequent visitors here.
On to the west side of Gili Air we find Air Wall, a dive site that has something for everyone with its diverse topography.
We start our descent by a gentle sandy slope infused with colorful coral boomies. By these the turtles like to have a rest from the current together with cuttlefish, Nemo and if you take a look in the sand even some stingrays together with the shy garden eels.
As the slope evens out at around 18 metes we come across a series of ridges, cover in purple soft corals and as we turn around the corner of the island the bottom will gradually get steeper and rockier until it has formed into the majestic wall the site is named after.
This section is covered by an array of fan- and firecoral and if you have a closer look you find small critters in the rock formations. Dont forget to look out for the curious batfish that might be buddying up with you throughout the dive!
The Bounty Wreck is located on the west coast of Gili Meno. It is an old sunken platform that used to be base of boat traffic coming to Bali but it sunk in a storm a long time ago.
The structure reminds you of a big box and as like other shipwrecks, this is the perfect shelter for a lot of marine life such as Drummers, Sweetlips, Batfish and much more. This site is not just the wreck, there is also a sloping reef and some hidden pinnacles full of life.
Bio Rocks are a project to help the re-growth of damaged reefs. They are man-made metallic structures which have healthy living corals attached to them and a small electric current put through them to speed up the procedure of making a new healthy reef.
There are more then 70 Bio Rocks around the Gili islands (this is the largest Bio Rock conservation effort in the world). The shape of the Bio Rocks and their location provides great shelter for a lot of fish and is a great attraction for macro life. We love doing night dives at this dive site, we look for spanish dancers, flatworms, nudibranch, crabs, shrimps, surgeonfish and feather stars.
Located to the North of the 3 Gili islands, this site lay independent from the reefs closer to the Gili’s. Simon’s Reef is an excellent coral viewing site for experienced divers. The reef is made up of canyons and massive coral mounds roughly in a figure-of-eight shape rising from a sandy bottom at a depth of 35m. The average depth for this dive site is around 25m.
The canyons are all well formed and abundant in superb coral varieties, such as brain corals, gorgonian fans, table coral and more. The channels in between funnel the currents, concentrating large numbers of bigger reef and schooling fish species such as snappers, trevalley and tuna. It is also common to spot parrotfish, angelfish, triggerfish, sweetlips and whitetip and blacktip reef sharks.
On the harbour-side of Gili Air we find The Gathering. This is where we go to visit crocodile fish, frog fish harlequin sweet lips, batfish, cuttlefish, octopus, and a lot more.
The closer you look you will start to notice the big variety of macro life that this site has to offer, like nudibranches, porcelain crabs and its variation of shrimps.
We also find sunken statues of Buddhas and small fishing boats that have been placed here to increase coral growth.
This site and its surroundings is a very peaceful and relaxing dive spot, and due to its geographical location it rarely has any current present
This dive site is for more experienced diver who appreciates the small and unusual things. In black sand, bad visibility and a lot of rubbish you will find incredible creatures much the same as you would find in the Lembah Strait, Sulawesi.
Not many of the dive centres visit this dive site because it is located a bit further away than the Gili Island sites. Keep an eye out for hairy frogfish, flamboyant cuttlefish, seahorses, ghost pipefish and much more. An excellent dive for photographers.
This is one of the Gilis most popular dive sites and starts on a sloping reef, with a series of ridges and valleys running parallel to the shore, leading into the deeper water. It offers a large diversity and abundance in marine life.
Down here we can find white tip and black tip reef sharks, barracuda, tuna, trevally and blue-spotted rays.Turtles are often found in the shallower parts (Known as Turtle City) among the soft corals along with angelfish, snapper, groupers, bat fish, parrot fish, trigger fish, puffers, moray eels and more.
At Halik, located on the north point of Gili Trawangan, we start our dive at a shallow, sandy platform before we drop over the side of the reef wall that we then follow during the dive. It´s a colourful dive site appropriate for all level divers, it has something for everyone!
In the shallows you can look for lionfish, scorpionfish, mantis shrimp, fusiliers, bannerfish, moray eels, coral grouper, bumphead parrotfish and turtles. In the deeper part of Halik you will find a series of deep water ridges with beautiful sponge and soft corals, many types of grouper, batfish, and possibly whitetip and blacktip reef sharks.
The shallow end of Turbo has got a white sandy bottom dotted with large coral heads with an average depth of 16m. Dives here can take their time and relax because the bottom rarely dips below 18m. Around the coral heads you will find large amounts of small invertebrate marine life.
You will pass through varied terrain, including small channels with stingrays and fields of Garden Eels. The sponge life is diverse and quite colourful throughout this site and you will commonly find Star Pufferfish, schools of Batfish, Triggerfish, Trevally and turtles along with a variety of interesting nudibranch species on this dive site.
Located on the west side of Gili Trawangan, is a gentle slope starting at about 5m and running down to about 25m. A large portion of the reef is marked by giant steps of table coral, which shelters small fish.
Bommies with hard and soft coral can be found with cleaning stations containing sweetlips, groupers and snappers. On the deeper sandy bottom you can spot Whitetip and Blacktip Reef Sharks and stingrays. During the rainy season, when the water is rich in plankton, staring out in the blue you could have the chance to see passing eagle rays or even manta rays.
Here you you follow the shore of Gili Meno as you dive, along the sloped reef and vertical wall you find an array of hard and soft corals with healthy amounts of fish life to keep you entertained. It is common to spot, turtles, snapper, triggerfish, moray eels, pufferfish, cuttlefish and octopus on this dive. Also another great spot for a night dives due to its rich macro life.
Good Heart Reef
Good Heart Reef begins in the shallow part of Deep Turbo and runs parallel along Gili Trawangan’s east coast sloping from the shore into deeper water. Coral bommies and outcropings protrude from sandy areas, thriving with juvenile and smaller species of fish, like damsels- and soldierfish, seeking shelter in the shallow waters.
At Secret Reef the corals are as colourful as in Finding Nemo. You will find a lot of cool marine life such as Trevally. large Snappers, Spanish mackerel and Barracuda. Secret Reef is suitable for all levels of divers and a must for the deep diving lover. It’s like thick slices of reef stretching deeper and deeper the closer to Lombok you get.
With a maximum depth of 40m and an average dive depth of 25m, Takat Malang is made up of a collection of large coral heads (Takats) arranged in a sloping bed, beginning with a plateau at 15m. There are about 10 major Takats, as if someone has been at work on the reef with a giant carving chisel. Each Takat is sculpted with overhangs, outcrops and swim-throughs. This dive site will provide you with the same excellent diversity in corals as those found on Simon’s Reef.
The Takats are covered in soft and hard coral varieties growing on top of the stony outcrops, including some very big Gorgonian Sea Fans and table corals. The channels between the Takats are interesting, with a large concentration of the bigger reef fish and fascinating topography. The marine life is quite similar to that found on Simon’s Reef.

Rekommenderas starkt.
Super friendly people, and they're great instructors! I did my first dive in over 5 years with Gili Divers on Air, and it felt so comfortable. The dive was absolutely beautiful! 10/10!

For us GDOA is a Top Dive School with enthusiastic and relaxed people, we started with 1 dive and ended up with 14. Micha, Tait, Christian and Sebastian thanks for the great diving, Anne and Greg for the hospitality. We hope that the damage after the earthquake will not be too bad and that you, as a company, will soon be back in business. Stay strong We will be back July 2019 for even more beautiful dives Nanta and John
Will believe that Gili Divers on Air is the world's best place to get Open Water Diver certificate when you are a beginner. The staff and the surroundings are just great. Annie and her staff (Christian & Tait) were very professional and helpful, clear in their formulations so everyone understood the theory. All dives were carried out professionally with safety at the top, so everyone was very comfortable during each dive. It was a great diving experience that soon needs to be retested. Can only provide the best recommendations for diving with Gili Divers on Air.

We did our rescue diver here and absolutely loved it. Very professional crew before and during diving, very good relaxed atmosphere after the dive. The owners Greg and Annie run a tight ship (safety comes first and the quality of the gear is top notch). They always went for the best dive spots taking into account visibility, current and how crowded the spots tend to get at that time. Our dive instructor Sebastien Toro was simply amazing and somehow manages to keep a perfect balance between learning and fun. We stayed in a bungalow in the dive center itself and totally recommend. Spotless and the beds are very comfortable. Ry and Kyle are great managers and go the extra mile to make your stay unforgettable!
Thanks for the amazing dives this week we have had a blast! Can’t wait to return c&n
Did the open water here in March. The staff were so friendly and helpful even though I can’t really swim. Definitely going to come back for my advanced.

Best Dive Shop on Gili Air!😊 The Dive Shop is small and very personal. All of the Instructors and the rest of the Team are very helpful, welcoming and professionel. Especially Instructor Anna and Greg who also manage the place do their best to find every single customer the best dive site to suit their experience and dive level. The groups are small and all the Guides and Instructors are very professionel, patient and have always a smile on their face and you can always come to them with any question you may have about diving. You feel always comfortable and safe with Gili Divers on Air. I can highly recommend them for any level from beginners to Pro's they will make your day and you will have a wonderful experience diving around the Gili Islands!
I had a great experience at Gili Divers On Air! It was my first time scuba diving down to 12m and therefore I was quite nervous and excited. Annie, our instructor today, explained everything very well and I could ask questions whenever I was unsure if I understood right. After the theoretical part we went to the pool, where I had enough time to practise and try again. After that we had a look at the fish we could probably see and the respective hand signs for each type of fish and went to the boat. We had 41mins and during the whole time I could hold her hand to calm and guide me. It was a great experience and I would highly suggest them, you will not regret it!
An amazing place where you feel comfortable and safe. Very knowledgeable staff who explain the theory and safety so it’s easy to understand, learn and put into practice.

- Mike Horne
Great dive centre! Very personable and friendly...even changes dive sites to accommodate not going to the same place as the other dive centres. Was also nice to have someone with connections to my part of the world as well
Super équipe, très sérieuse, mes amis ont adoré leur passage de niveau 2 et mon baptême m'a bien aidé à passer au dessus de grosse peur ! La sécurité est au rdv, la bonne humeur aussi, on reviendra sans hésitation !
Great place to go if you are feeling a bit nervous about diving and want great support! I had never dived before and was not even sure that I wanted to try it; I wasn't sure whether I would enjoy the experience or feel comfortable enough. I spoke to Greg and Annie in the shop and they reassured me that with the right training and support anyone can enjoy diving. So I booked to do a Discover Scuba afternoon course; this involves a bit of theory, some training and practise in the pool, and then on to the actual dive. The theory was well explained and enough to give us a basic understanding of the equipment and of the changes that occur in your body when you dive and how to manage them. We were also told about all the amazing marine life in the spot we would be going to. In the pool we got to grips with wearing the equipment, breathing properly and swimming comfortably underwater. Greg made sure we understood everything and that we were all feeling confident enough to progress to the dive. Off we went! I had felt great in the pool but once we were truly underwater and in the sea I felt a bit more nervous, Greg saw this without me even having to signal to him, and held onto my hand and guided me through the dive, whilst also leading another new diver and also monitoring how the other two in our group were getting along. With Greg's support I felt completely safe and was able to see some amazing sights, including a turtle, barracuda, puffer fish, sea slugs, garden eels, and much more. Gili Divers on Air only ever have small groups when you are learning, I think this is very important and believe you can get far more tailored support here than at any of the other bigger schools. I would recommend these guys to anyone who has never dived before, and also to experts alike (my boyfriend is doing his training to be an Advanced Diver with them)

Just finished my advanced course with gili divers on air. My dive Instructor Romi, really took her time with me! Great personal attention to make me feel comfortable!! It was only us in de group! I had a great experience! Nice divesites we visited! And for me the best was not to be in the boat Or a group with lots of people 🙂
Now an SSI certified advanced diver with the help from Gili Divers on Air. The team we're so friendly, helpful and supportive. Highly recommend this place to anyone thinking about diving and even got my girlfriend to do her Open Water course. She was terrified before but the guys here made it easy and exciting for her! Thanks again to the whole team
I did my advanced diver with this wonderful dive school in June 2017. It was very personal and I felt very welcome and safe. They have very small groups and I think I learned so much and felt so much more comfortable under water, even after the first dive. The underwater world is the most incredible one. So the only problem you have is, that you don't want to go up again or leave the island 😉 So all in all, I couldn't think of a better place to go diving! Thank you so much Annie!!!
